This morning, we left our hotel at about 10 and we walked up a few hills for 20 minutes to get to the subway. We took the subway awhile to get into manhattan and the first thing we did was go into the Guggenheim Museum near Central Park. I saw so many cool paintings and I loved the winding staircase design of the museum, it kind of looked like a tornado if it froze. We then walked a few minutes to Central Park and we got to see the cherry blossoms all around the reservoir. I brought the worst shoes possible for walking so my feet were so sore at the end of our walk.
We got reservations at a restaurant we went to during winter last time we were here and got there at around 2:20. I had the best Mac & cheese and fries. After, we realized the Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere was right next to the restaurant, so after getting pictures at the photo booth that was in the bathroom, we headed out to walk around. We got there around 4 and we got to see so many celebrities, influencers, I actually got to walk a few feet away from Nara Smith and her husband which was pretty cool. I unfortunately didn’t get a picture of them because I was scared they were going to maul me because both of them were definitely over 6 feet tall.
We stood on the sidewalk near the premiere set and we got to see Anne Hathaway as well as Anna Wintour and Simone Ashley before they went into the showing. The sun was directly in my eyes so it was hard to see anything but it was a cool experience. It was kind of dystopian in a way because regular people were lined up to see al of these celebrities who are also just regular people who got lucky and are now at this huge premiere that’s just an early showing of a movie with a huge setup around it. Everybody was really excited to see Anne Hathaway which is understandable but it’s not like she’s from a different planet and I think it’s kind of unsettling that all of the influencers who were there were acting like they were above everyone else because they were there. It kind of felt like they were allergic to “normal people.” Seeing everyone walking down the streets in their fancy dresses with expensive bags while people in New York are homeless kind of threw me off because of the dynamic of elite versus the underdogs. Maybe I’m thinking too much into it but overall it was an experience that was cool to see in person instead of just online.
The day was pretty good and we got back to our hotel by taxi at around 7:30, by the time we got home, my feet were past gone but I’m glad we got to see the premiere and the other attractions!
